Purpose: We want everyone to have fun and be safe, and raise some money for local charities.

How: The Z Run course changes from paved paths to dirt trails with roots to bridges over creeks. Everyone must be mindful of their surroundings, especially when transitioning into a section that may only fit one person at a time.

Can I (as a RUNNER or ZOMBIE) attack/get attacked?

No direct or intentional contact with another RUNNER or ZOMBIE is permitted (course monitors will be present). ZOMBIES are to go after RUNNERS’ flags but cannot grab body parts, completely impede passage or tackle. RUNNERS cannot push other RUNNERS into ZOMBIES. Violators of this rule may be asked to leave the premises.

What happens if I lose my flags?

When a RUNNER loses all flags, he/she does not become a ZOMBIE. He/she must cross the finish line. Flags and bib numbers must be visible on RUNNERS and ZOMBIES at all times.

Can I get extra flags?

Yes. If you are a RUNNER you have the option to buy extra life flags on site.  Proceeds benefit Helping Hands of Clemson.

Can I hide my flags?

NO! We understand that when trying to survive there are no rules, but this is a fun sporting event. Don’t cheat. If caught you will be removed from the course.

ZOMBIES, please don’t grope, wrestle, tackle or place hands in inappropriate places to get a flag that has been tucked away. Simply record the bib # and tell your race monitor to report the infraction.

What is the course like?

Nettles Park is a beautiful location that is open to the public year round. To not disturb the enjoyment of others that hope to use the park the following day, we are using the natural terrain and a few man made obstacles to make a fun and challenging course. We will also cross over the foot bridge into Patrick Square.  A course map will be published closer to date.

What are the ZOMBIEs like?

To make things more interesting, we will have 3 types of ZOMBIES this year at Clemson Z Run. There will be “Ragers”, think 28 Days Later, “Crawlers”, think The Walking Dead, and there will be “Clueless”, think Shaun of the Dead. They will be strategically placed throughout the course to add to the excitement, entertainment and challenge. Ragers will be stationed in the clearings, open fields or straight aways and will run after RUNNERS. Crawlers will be spread throughout the course and react to sounds and smells. The Clueless will be bunched up and very slow to react.

How are wave times handled?

This is an untimed event. RUNNERS will learn of their assigned wave time day of (starting every 5-7 minutes), but can easily switch waves to run with friends/family if desired.
